History
Cumberland Bay in New Brunswick, Canada is a wonderful place to relax, to leave all the stress behind and enjoy the unspoiled nature.
It is also a famous destination for hunters and anglers. In 1956 the Barton family had built the Pioneer Lodge to create accommodation especially for this type of clientele. Since then the lodge has been visited by numerous enthused anglers and hunters.
In 1976 the Lodge was sold to the Sidney family. Philipp Sidney and his wife Vera expanded the Lodge by 7 rustic log cabins which they decorated with much loving care with handcrafts from the region. To attract a broader clientele, the Sidneys also increased the service offered at the Lodge. The Lodge became famous for relaxing weekend trips in the summer with outdoor activities like walks on the property's own trails, bird watching and some rest at the swimming pool and in winter cross country skiing on groomed cross country courses, was the inside tip. And in the evening guests have been served a fine dinner on noble china and silver.
Family and company parties were also celebrated at the Lodge. The Sidneys managed the lodge for almost thirty years until they retired from the business end of 2003 because of age.
And since January 1, 2004, we, the Neumann family from Germany are the new owners and managers of the Pioneer Lodge & Log Cabins. We that is Lutz, Barbara and our adult son Thomas and our dog Aila, a great dane, and our old cat Purzel. We five are originally from a small village near the City of Dresden in former Eastern Germany. Our intention to immigrate to Canada and start a second career in the tourism sector developed over several years before we finally made the move. With the take over of the Pioneer Lodge our dream became true.
We intend to continue running the Pioneer Lodge as a family business. As far as packages that we offer to our guests are concerned we offer a whole new variety of packages for accommodation, outdoor activities and fine dining.
New and Existing Facts from the Pioneer Lodge at a Glance
Trails
The existing trails on our 100 acres wooded property are popular for walking during the summer and for cross country skiing during the winter. We intend to even expand the variety of trails to provide our guests a choice between small and long walks, round trips and visits to beaver dams etc.
Fine Dining
We re-launched the opportunity of fine dining in a cozy atmosphere which had been dropped by the previous owner in the past years due to their age.
As of today we serve a three-Course-Dinner at 7 p.m. at the main Lodge. Reservations are required.
Family and Company Parties
We would be pleased to accommodate your needs. Please contact us and we will make you a detailed offer.
Outdoors
As outdoor activities we offer our guests well maintained walking trails, groomed cross country courses, a heated outdoor swimmingpool, bicycles, cross country skies and a variety of games. At the main Lodge we established a game room with a pool table, table football and dart board so that nobody gets bored on rainy days.
Fire place and Bar
You are always welcome to make yourself comfortable at our large fire place in the main lodge to read a book or have a chat. In addition we established a bar at the main lodge where our guests may meet before or after dinner in a casual atmosphere.
We look forward to your stay!
Lutz, Barbara and Thomas Neumann
