Pioneer Lodge History and We About Us

About us
Pioneer Lodge & Log Cabins in Cumberland Bay is a wonderful place to relax, to leave all the stress behind and enjoy the unspoiled nature.

It is also a famous destination for hunters and anglers. In 1959 the Barton family built the lodge to create accommodations especially for this type of clientele. Since then the lodge has been visited by a lot of tourists and numerous enthused anglers, hunters and bird watchers.

For visitors, there are 4 cabins for your enjoyment. To attract a broader clientele we increased the service offered at the Lodge. The Lodge is famous for relaxing weekend trips in the summer with outdoor activities like walks on the property's own trails, bird watching or a camp fire in the late evening. In the winter have fun with cross country skiing on groomed trails. In the evening guests will be served a fine dinner on noble china. We offer German cuisine. Both family and company parties can celebrate at the Lodge.

Since 2004 Barbara and Lutz Neumann, from Germany, have owned the Pioneer Lodge & Log Cabins. We are running the Lodge as a family business. We offer a whole variety of packages for accommodation, outdoor activities and fine dining.

Facts from the Pioneer Lodge at a Glance

Pioneer Lodge is located in Queens County, east of Grand Lake, which is the largest inland lake in the region and is located in the triangle between the three major cities of the province of New Brunswick. Fredericton, the capital of New Bruswick, is approximately one hour by car and the cities of Moncton and Saint John are approximately 75 minutes from the Lodge.

Fine Dining

We offer the opportunity of fine dining in a cozy atmosphere. We serve a three-Course-Dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the main Lodge. Reservations are required. Each dinner costs $38.50 + tax/person.

Family and Company Parties

We are able to arrange weddings, family reunions, class reunions, company parties etc., to max. 40 people. We would be pleased to accommodate your needs. Please contact us and we will make you a detailed offer.

For outdoor activities we offer our guests well maintained walking trails, groomed cross country ski trails  and bicycles. You have the choice between small and long walks, round trips and visits to beaver dams etc. Two streams on our property give you the opportunity to fish. Fishing can also be done at Grand Lake, which is 10 minutes from our lodge. The property is surronded by Crown land forests that have a huge network of trails. A paradise for hikers, hunters, ATV and snowmobile riders.

Horseback Riders

The property is also an ideal base for horseback riding. An enclosed space (fence) and fresh hay can be provided. Bring your horses to our special place and enjoy together the New Brunswick forest. A GPS would be a valuable tool for your trail adventures.

At the main Lodge we have a pool table so that nobody gets bored on rainy days. We also have board and card games, books and DVD's for your enjoyment.

Fire place and Bar

You are always welcome to make yourself comfortable at our large fire place in the main lodge, to read a book, have a chat or use our wireless internet. Next to the dining area is a bar where our guests may meet before or after dinner in a casual atmosphere.

We look forward to your stay!
